Ferienwohnung Sonenga ★★★★
Italien, Comer See, Menaggio
The apartment is located above Menaggio in a gate controlled residential location. You need a key to enter the compound, and the building is some distance from the gate. We were on foot for the first part of our vacation and had a car during the last few days. If you are on foot there are roughly the equivalent of 500 steps you need to ascend from lake level to where the building is located. It has excellent views across the lake and is not overlooked. The accommodation standard is fairly average, the decor is a little tired but OK. The apartment boasts a pool/billiard table which is unusable in the conventional sense because it has been placed in a very small area in the apex of the roof. There is not enough room to play a meaningful game without hitting the ceiling (yes I mean ceiling because it slopes down to table top height). Cooking wise a lot of the equipment was not particularly clean, including the oven. We only used it to heat a couple of Pizzas, but if you wanted to seriously cook, then you would need to clean everything first. All rubbish has to be removed by the renter, this is first time I have come across this. There is plenty of space for 6 people. Italian Sky TV was available and while I don't record it being advertised there was also Wi-Fi which worked very well. No Kettle, did have a dishwasher and washing machine. Both were used, although no English instructions. We onlyhad one set of keys (three of us travelling), which meant that we all had to leave the property together or use the cell phone to co-ordinate entry to property. This was tolerable but with a group of 6 people it may have been more of an issue. (To be clear here, you needed to open a locked gate to enter the compound, and then the property was some 150-200 metres away, so two sets of keys might have been more helpful. Leila the local representative was very helpful, and gave is a lift to the property, I would not want to haul 60kgs of bags to this location from the waterfront. There were two bathrooms, one was ensuite, both were clean, although the shower attachment in one was taped up, and the other had a broken toilet seat in it. These are things I would hope to see fixed for the a property like this.
I did have reason to contact Interhome the agent through which this property was booked, I did not find them too helpful, the description of the property including the "extras" were a bit vague. I had several attempts asking questions of clarification.
