Ferienwohnung Brocard ★★
Schweiz, Wallis, Val-d'Illiez
(11.49km → Salvan)
Only stressful part was finding out the owner didn't speak English when trying to arrange picking up the key. However my partner phoned and managed to speak to someone who did speak English and sorted out the arrangements. Lovely location, walking distance to town (very steep on the way back up). Beautiful views from the balcony, would have been nice to have air con or even a fan as it was baking during the nights. The double bedroom only has patio doors and none of the windows in the rest of the apartment have a way to open them slightly with the lock in place. However the crime rate is supposed to be very low. No insect screens meant knat bites on the first night, insect repellent sorted that out but it doesn't feel great getting out the shower to go to bed and covering yourself in stinky insect repellent. The pictures on the apartment walls were a bit strange, it would have been nice to see some local art of the beautiful landscapes. The kitchen is tiny, one person at a time and take a tin opener as we couldn't find one. Laundry facilities (unmarked door in entrance hall downstairs) were ace. Also thought I should mention, the apartment is on the second floor and there is no lift. A garage is included in the rent and very handy for keeping the car cooler during the day.
The man in the tourist office down the road was very helpful and I would definitely recommend the thermal baths down the road. The fairy caves in Aigle were also good fun.
