Ferienhaus Casa Rustica ★★
Schweiz, Tessin, Minusio
Let's start with the positives first. This house has great views, a very nice garden, and was well-equipped. It was also possible for us to use public transport to access it, despite the 147 steps, (not 137 as described), you have to climb to reach it - not easy with shopping, luggage, etc., but we were at least prepared for this by Interhome's description. We received a warm and helpful welcome from the housekeeper and her lovely dog.
We paid more for this property than any other we've previously rented worldwide, but it has to be the most overpriced and poor value one we've ever encountered. The interior was described as being 'cosy and rustic.' Rustic yes, cosy no. This old house certainly had the potential to be cosy, but it was so frustrating to stay somewhere where so little of it had been realised. We got the impression that by and large it had been furnished as cheaply as possible. There is comfortable seating in the lounge for 2 people only. There was no door to the main bedroom, no bedside tables, no bedside light in the second bedroom, it wasn't possible to use the TV because there were no working batteries in the remote control. The beds were extremely uncomfortable, to the point where one of us had difficulty sleeping for several nights and the pillows were of very poor quality. There was absolutely no information provided for guests, although the housekeeper thoughtfully provided us with a bus timetable. There were bunches of flowers everywhere, every single one of them plastic. Would it have been too much for the owners to have ensured that there was a bunch of real flowers or a bottle of wine to welcome us? In fact, any sign of welcome from the owners would have been appreciated. The overall impression was that they wanted to make as much money out of guests for the least investment possible.
The other aspect which concerned us was that if this property is representative of Interhome properties in general, then we wouldn't be prepared to book through them again. On this evidence, their quality control / monitoring of properties would appear to be virtually non-existent.
